Hydro will supply Mercedes-Benz with low-carbon aluminum to reduce the carbon footprint of its vehicles, including the electric EQ model. Both parties have agreed to develop and implement a joint low-carbon technology roadmap for the period 2023-2030.
Hydro and Mercedes-Benz have signed a cooperation agreement to jointly develop and implement a joint technology roadmap from 2023 to 2030, aiming to develop aluminum solutions that can be used in automobile manufacturing with a carbon dioxide footprint of less than 3.0kgCO2/ kgAl. Their ambition is to start producing and using near-zero carbon aluminum by the end of this partnership period.
Hydro will provide Mercedes-Benz with the first batch of aluminum with a carbon footprint of less than 3.0kgCO2/kgAl in 2023, that is, Hydro’s low-carbon brand REDUXA3.0. The product will be introduced into a range of Mercedes-Benz models, including their newest electric car, the EQ.
